I’m a big fan of Islay Single Malts and as such I was expecting alot from Caol Ila, 12. However this one fails to deliver. Now do not get me wrong, it’s a quality product, I was just expecting more smoke and peat. It doesn’t have any unique aspects to it, which itself isn’t a bad thing and it reminds me of Highland Park.
So If you enjoy mildly smoked single malts, you will like this.
Smokes: ■■ Fruits: ■■ Rating: ★★★★☆
Fresh, sweetly fruity and smooth-bodied, Caol Ila 12 year old single malt Scotch whisky is the colour of pale straw, with a delicate balance of tastes. The clean, appetising nose shows subtle citrus fruit with just a puff of smoke. Firm and smooth, it begins sweetly then yields a fragrant smokiness and a sweet-smoky, lingering finish.
