The Future of ixbar3000 (GT / R)

As metadata and images are increasing and my development focus has pivoted to gamedev, I need to figure out the status of this project.

The first iteration was made with tcl/tk and prioritized low resource usage from the OS. Only 8 MB RAM was needed, but that was increased to 150 MB if user loaded all the databases. Approach in this was that user could update his databases by providing datfiles.

ixbar3000GT

GT as in GodoT. I continued the project, but changed the language as tk is really limited when it comes to any kind of multimedia. With godot I can use audio and video with no problems. The main issue is how the sqlite-plugin handles queries as it is not 100% native with all of the queries I used. Deployment is much easier as I can provide binaries that just run the frontend.

The design was to make 1:1 copy of the previous and looking back, it could be so much better.

R as in Redot. I did few hours of research on differences between godot 3 and redot 4 and I do want to remake my frontend to utilize better ways to do software. Refactoring. Yeah, and as there is not much value as the userbase is low and visible features wouldn’t be that great (although if I refactor it, then making themes will be much better). The biggest time sink would be completely redesigned database.

Conclusion

I keep updating ixbar3000GT. It works good enough. To help with the remaining images, mail of dm me at x.
